Prayers for the World

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” Philippians 2:4

Today the whole world is searching for answers, answers to satisfy the immediate fear of pandemic and the residual fear of what life will be like after the pandemic is past. Behind these fears is the perennial need for answers to the innate human desire to understand the purpose and meaning of life and to find answers to the age-old question “What is Truth?”

Many of us have found the answers to these pressing questions in our study of Christian Science. At this time when we are all joining together in heartfelt prayer for the world, I have dedicated this page as a place where we can share the inspiration from these prayers with one another for our mutual benefit and encouragement.

Let’s share quotations from the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy that have provided the springboard for our individual prayers. To do this please email these quotations to me at janet.hegarty@gmail.com and then I will post them on this page. Even if, you find a quote that has inspired you is already posted here, please send it in anyway. Repetition of good only gives rise to more good and more inspiration for us all. And please do come by this page to read what is inspiring others.

“To prevent disease or to cure it, the power of Truth, of divine Spirit, must break the dream of the material senses.” “Mentally insist that harmony is the fact, and that sickness is a temporal dream. Realize the presence of health and the fact of harmonious being, until the body corresponds with the normal conditions of health and harmony.” S&H 412:16-18, 23

“Never become discouraged, dear ones. This work is not humdrum, it is growth. It is repeating and defeating, repeating and defeating, repeating and defeating.” We knew Mary Baker Eddy Expanded Edition

“. . .hold you’re ground with the unshaken understanding of Truth and Love, and you will win.” S&H 417:14-16 hold

“God is the creator of man, and , the divine Principle of man remaining perfect, the divine idea or reflection, man, remains perfect. Man is the expression of God’s being.””The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history.” S&H 470:21-24, 32

“Is God creating anew what He has already created? The Scriptures are definite on this point, declaring that His work was finished, nothing is new to God, and that it was good. Can there be any birth or death for man, the spiritual image and likeness of God? Instead of God sending sickness and death, He destroys them, and brings to light immortality. Omnipotent and infinite Mind made all and includes all. This Mind does not make mistakes and subsequently correct them. God does not cause man to sin, to be sick, or to die.” S&H 206:21-31

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth our fear.”
I John 4:18

“Jesus aided in reconciling man to God by giving man a truer sense of Love, the divine Principle of Jesus’ teachings, and this truer sense of Love redeems man from the law of matter, sin, and death by the law of Spirit, — the law of divine Love.” Science & Health 19:6

In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all, as Jesus showed with the loaves and the fishes, — Spirit, not matter, being the source of supply.

“Cast out all manner of evil. ‘Preach the gospel to every creature.’ Speak the truth to every form of error. Tumors, ulcers, tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of Truth.” Science & Health 418:27
